Grab Page 1 Google rankings with Online Video

Ok I’m going to show you the results of a short test that I recently ran using video to try to get a high google ranking. I’ve been hearing a lot lately about people using Youtube videos to secure positions in the search engine results which then bring traffic back to their website.

So I thought I’d conduct a test of my own.

How I ran the Online Video Test

  1. I produced a video recently called “Understanding backlinks and anchor text” as an explanatory video on these two concepts which are important to search engine optimization.TubeMogul Logo
  2. I then went to Tubemogul.com and created a free account. Tubemogul is a website which allows you to distribute video to multiple video sites easily. You simply upload the video to the Tubemogul website once and it then uploads it to the other sites saving you the time and effort. (Note you still need to setup your own account with each of these other video sites before you upload to Tubemogul…but hey it’s only once)
  3. When I uploaded the video I “tagged” it with a number of related keyword phrases such as SEO, search engine optimization, backinks…that sort of thing, in addition to tagging it with the phrase “understanding backlinks and anchor text” itself.
  4. Then I simply published the video using Tubemogul

The Results

I must say that I was blown away….after 1 week here are the results.

Searching for the phrase understanding backlinks and anchor text (broad matched) I have a listing at Position 4 on Page 1 of Google. Click here to view the results.

Searching for the exact phrase “understanding backlinks and anchor text” (phrase matched) I have the top 7 of 10 places in the google search results. Let me say that again as it bears repeating….the top 7 results are either direct links to my video or to pages where my video is shown as a related video. Click here to view the results.

Results in Google

I even get 3 Page 1 Google rankings for the phrase understanding backlinks.

Now these results are great and demonstrate the ability of online video to get high search rankings. However it is important to remember that you want to target phrases that get decent search traffic and that are relevant to your niche or business.

How can you use this for your business?

You simply need to be a little bit creative when figuring out how to use video. You could do a product review of your own product or a “how to” video. They are always well received as people are always looking for shortcuts.

Once you have an angle for the video worked out it’s simply a matter of doing some basic keyword research so you have an idea which keyword phrases are popular and have low to moderate competition.

Be sure to include a website address at the end of the video so if people are interested they know where to go to get further information.

And that’s it. Online Video works…google loves it and ranks it quickly. Why not give it a go yourself.

2 Key elements to improving your website ranking

We had some great feedback on our last video How to Rank in the Search Engine Results. That video showed you how we took a website and got in onto Page 1 of Google.

One of the key questions I got asked however was “How do I increase my search rankings once I have a website ranked?”

At a very simple level increasing a websites rankings is simply a process of getting Backlinks to your website with the right Anchor Text, so that you have more backlinks with the right anchor text.

Backlinks are simply links from other websites to your website. Google takes these as a sign of authority or a “vote of confidence” in your website.
Anchor Text is simply the words that the other websites use to link to your website. For example the anchor text here: Edmund Pelgen is simply my name. A more appropriate anchor text might be: Online Marketing Blog.

Both links point to my personal blog, but they have different anchor text.

I have put together a short 5 minute video to show you exactly what these concepts are and how they are being used by other websites to achieve top search engine rankings.

As always, if you have any questions please feel free to post a comment on the blog and I will answer them there so everyone can benefit from the discussion.

How to Rank in the Search Engine Results

Here’s how to get your website on Page 1 of Google..sort of.

I’m often asked by clients how we go about getting their websites to rank in the search engines. At its simplest it’s a three part process.

  1. Fix the website so that there are no “structural problems” which would stop Google reading the page and determining what the page content is about.
  2. Get Google’s attention and force it to visit the website and go through the pages and include them in its search index
  3. Build inbound links to the website which google can use as a means to rank your website above others of a similar topic.

And that’s it! Well there is more detail to it but basically that’s what we do.

I’ve thrown together a short video which shows how we did this for a web site about cell phones and how we got it to Page 1 of Google for it’s specific search term.

If you have any comments or questions please feel free to ask them below the video in the comments box and I will answer them for you.

Equus Muscle Management Launches

Equus Muscle ManagementWe just launched a website today for a company called Equus Muscle Management. Equus Muscle Management is an interesting client and deliver a service that I never knew existed. The business is run by kath Hastings and Steve Rochford and is based in Imbil which is in the hinterlands of the Sunshine Coast.

As we state in the website:

Equus Muscle Management (EMM) is a natural Muscle Release Therapy for animals that has been developed here in Australia.

What that means to the layman is “Horse massage”. The trick is that Equus Muscle Management have developed a technique which is much more than simple “horse or equine massage” and competes favorably with other existing treatments.

Online Marketing Survey Results

Online Marketing Survey ResultsRecently we ran an online survey of business owners and asked them a number of questions about about their online marketing activities.

Simple things like their industry representation, business size, the types of online marketing activities they currently conduct and their assessment of their results to date.

As part of the survey one lucky participant was to win a website package worth $3,000. The winner of that package is Mr Algie Aiono of the Gold Coast. We will be working with Mr Aino to create an online presence for his business.

Interesting results include:

  • 20% of survey participants DID NOT have a website at all.
  • Only 7% of companies outsource their online marketing to experts, most preferring to do it themselves or have family and friends help them.
  • While 67% of people agreed that online marketing was becoming a key part of their marketing toolkit, 47% were unsure whether their online marketing initiatives had helped them to increase sales with existing customers. 60% agreed however that it brought them new customers.

Keyword Research - Where it all begins

This week while I was working with a client to make sure that I fully understood their service, I was reminded once again of the absolute importance of keyword research and understanding people’s searching behavior on the internet.

You’ve probably had this discussion in your mind in the past.

“Why aren’t people finding my website”

To answer this question properly you need to ask another.

“What words do people type into the search engines when they are looking for your product or service?”
